One night Coyote and Snake were down by Soda Spring.  Coyote saw the moon reflected in the water.  He asked Snake, "What is that down there?"

"It's cheese and it's very good to eat," said Snake.  "How can I get it?" asked Coyote.

"All you do is dive down in the water and get it."

"Well, I'm going to get some."  So he did.  Coyote dove down in that spring and it was deep.  He kept going down and down and down, but couldn't reach the cheese.  Every time he seemed to get close, it would run away from him.  Finally, Coyote couldn't hold his breath any more and he drowned.

His friend Snake pulled him out of the water.  Snake shook him and tried to get the water out of him.  Coyote wouldn't wake up.  So he hit Coyote with his stick and Coyote jumped up and rubbed his eyes.

"Where is my cheese?" he said.  "You didn't bring it," said Snake.

"Oh, I remember, I couldn't get hold of it.  It kept running from me."

"I fooled you," laughed Snake.  "You are a silly Coyote."
