The overall function of the Education Center is to provide assistance to the students of the community and all tribal members, whether it be children or adults. The Towanits Indian Education Center provides services in tutoring, homework assistance, school assistance, graduation incentives, field trips, and college funding. The mission of the Townaits Indian Education Center is to provide the educational assistance needed so that all of the students can perform at their highest academic potential. The Education Center is not taking on the role of schools in town, but are working with the schools providing tutorial assistance to insure the students can succeed in school. The California Department of Education, American Indian Education Office Funding also requires library services and a resource for Teachers in the schools surrounding the Reservation so they can provide appropriate information to their students pertaining to the California Indians, and local tribes. The Towanits Indian Education Center is located on the Tule River Indian Reservation. It has a staff of 15-30 employees. The facility features a large library and computer lab to assist in the growth of knowledge. In addition to the Education center, the Tule River Tribe also has an after school study center located in Porterville. The Tule River Indian Study Center assists children with their homework assignments and other activities. In addition, the staff assists students with problem areas that they are experiencing in school. The staff of the Tule River Indian Study Center and the Towanits Indian Education Center is comprised of accredited teachers that give their time to assist in the growth of the children's education.
