Born and raised on the reservation, Shine Nieto has worked for TRAP for approximately three and a half years.  He is the current Outreach Counselor.

He conducts all the intakes such as, visiting the California Jails to evaluate and screen a possible enrollment of a client for the TRAP program.  In addition, he will also attend court for the eligible client, and speak on their behalf in regards to letting the client attend the TRAP program as an alternative to Jail time.

If a person is eligible for the TRAP program, they are released under Shine's custody and then transferred to the TRAP facility where they are monitored for progress in the program.

Once a person is admitted into the program, Shine's responsibility to that client does not end.  He is required by their probation officer to evaluate the progress of the Client every 30 days.  These reports are correlated and submitted for review by the clients probation officer.

Once a client completes his rehabilitation with the program, the client will receive a certificate of completion from the TRAP program, and is required to follow up with their probation officer, as they are mandated by the court.

Shine, also spends time with other Tribal Members in "Outreach" fashion, by taking them to their court dates and any other service that he can provide to make it more accommodating to the community and it's members.

Shine strives to make all Native American people learn about the perils of drug abuse and help provide a cleaner and more sober environment for them to live in.
